ABOUT ME
My name is Liz and real food is currently changing my life. I have had refractory complex partial epilepsy for the past 15 years. In June 2015 I had a breakthrough grand mal seizure. Instead of taking the same route of going to the doctor and beginning an experimentation process with new prescription drugs, I decided to begin researching the ketogenic diet (KD). It is an extremely high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate diet most widely known for curing epilepsy in children. By the time I was able to be seen by a doctor, I had weened myself off of a prescription drug that I had taken since age nine.
I would not try to tell you I did not make mistakes along the way...because my journey with the KD has been anything but linear. However, I can tell you that my education background and support group of family and friends have been pivotal to my success thus far. After doing personal research on the diet, I initiated the KD without the supervision of a medical doctor (I don't recommend this!)...after a 36 hour fast, I proceeded to eat every meal and snack in a 3 to 1 ratio of fats to combined protein and carbs measured out using a gram scale. After 2 months on the diet I had decreased my 3 prescription drugs from 10 pills a day to 5 pills a day. Despite my errors along the way, I don't regret taking this radical approach towards better health. I am more healthy and mentally clear than I have ever felt in my life.
Delivering my experience fighting epilepsy and living the ketogenic lifestyle is currently underway via my YouTube channel: Ketogenic Lifestyle.
The mission of Ketogenic Lifestyle is to spread awareness of the diet and empower others to use food as supplemental medicine for fighting chronic illnesses. Whether it be epilepsy, Alzheimers', Parkinsons', bipolar disease, or cancer, there is no doubt that this way of eating has the power to heal the brain!
